Operations and facilities updates: roadwork near North Oconee, generators brought online, parking expansion advertised

Operations and facilities staff updated the Oconee County Board of Education April 14 on multiple infrastructure items including upcoming road construction, generator installations, athletic field lighting, and planned parking expansion.
Operations staff said kilowatt usage per day per 1,000 square feet was updated for February and provided transportation metrics for the prior month: 47 field trips, 16 athletic trips, 21 special education trips, 213 buses deployed and 12,412 miles traveled. Nutrition participation in March showed a 1.25% decrease in breakfast and a 0.6% increase in lunch participation compared with March 2024.
Staff reported regular communication with Oconee County Government Public Works about road work. A roundabout outside North Oconee High at the intersection of Snows Mill, Rocky Branch and Hog Mountain Roads is scheduled to begin this month and will be built under traffic. Staff said widening of Experiment Station Road is expected to finish by the third quarter of the year and noted an anticipated 45-day closure of the Oconee Connector and Jimmy Daniel (reported as beginning 03/16) with routing options under study.
Facilities staff said generators for some schools were brought online over spring break to power freezers and coolers; work continues at other sites and previously back-ordered generators had been shipped and were expected to arrive that week. The Oconee County High practice field lighting has been ordered with delivery expected in late May and installation in June. The facilities report also noted an action item for the April 21 meeting: the certificate of the board for Rocky Branch Elementary School. Staff said they advertised projects for Oconee County High School parking expansion (to standardize spaces between high schools) and paving at the maintenance shop.
No votes were taken on these items at the April 14 work session; several items were presented as informational or scheduled for future board action.
