Student services report: 26 summer camps, SRO staffing update, five out-of-state trips slated for board approval

Oconee County Schools student services staff on April 14 outlined summer programing, climate survey participation, and school resource officer staffing, and asked the board to approve five out-of-state school field trips at the district’s April 21 meeting.

The student services presenter said the district’s high school athletic programs will offer 26 sport-specific summer camps for younger students and that information was shared through school newsletters and district social media. Staff also reported they participated in the Georgia School Climate Surveys (students, teachers, staff, families); the survey window closed March 31 and staff thanked administrators for achieving the Department of Education’s participation requirements. Survey results will be available to school and district leaders in May.

Staff noted an SRO staffing update: Lieutenant Maxey, previously assigned to Dove Creek, took a leave of absence and is scheduled to return at the start of the next school year; during his absence other SROs will cover the campus. Sheriff Hale’s office continues recruiting deputies to fill SRO positions per jointly established criteria.

The superintendent’s recommendation for the April 21 meeting is to approve five out-of-state school field trips listed on the agenda; no formal vote on the trips occurred during the April 14 work session.

Board members did not raise substantive questions after the presentation. The SRO staffing and survey participation updates were information items; the out-of-state trips will be considered at the next board meeting.
