The police chief later stated the department has eight intersections with license-plate readers.
Council approved the price-agreement renewal on the consent agenda roll call following the brief exchange. No changes to the contract terms were recorded in the meeting minutes; the item was listed as a renewal of the existing price agreement with Electronic Technology Inc. for ongoing camera and license-plate reader support.
City staff characterized the camera system as supporting facility security and, at certain intersections, integration with a regional metro network that allows police to be notified if a plate of interest passes through a monitored location.
The council took no additional policy action in this meeting to limit or change how camera or license-plate reader data is used; the discussion was informational and the renewal was approved.
