He said the department has been recruiting Volunteers in Policing and showed a recently opened technology center used to support real-time public-safety operations.
On enforcement and response, Gonzales reported the department responded to 3,563 calls for service in the first quarter. He said deputies completed 1,291 proactive observed contacts, conducted 308 car stops and 402 traffic citations. The department used camera registry resources to track and recover more than 50 bottles of alcohol taken in a theft series, and deputies made 107 total arrests (including 17 felonies and 30 warrant arrests).
Gonzales also described work on weapons and DUI enforcement, and highlighted use of social media for emergency notifications and educational outreach on evacuation zones. The council welcomed Gonzales to his new role and asked him to include a personal assessment (strengths and weaknesses) in the next quarterly report.
