A cooperative contract to purchase three used fire apparatus and other firefighting equipment drew brief council questions about the specification, certification and where spare vehicles would be housed.
Business Administrator Eric Pennington told the council the purchase will include two pumper trucks and two utility vehicles; the vehicles are intended to be secondary or backup apparatus to be deployed when primary units are out of service. Pennington said the apparatus will be “of a high quality” and will include appropriate warranties.
Council members asked whether the vehicles will be assigned to specific firehouses or held in reserve, and whether safety and certification checks would be performed on used apparatus before acceptance. Pennington said the vehicles would not necessarily be assigned to a single house initially; they could be put into service as needed and will come with warranties. Councilman Gonzales asked if the Veterans’ Administration (VA) might assist with details; council members also asked for confirmation that certifications will be performed to ensure safety.
No formal contract award or vote was recorded during the pre-meeting. The item remained on the agenda for future action pending the cooperative contract procurement and specification reviews.
