Board approves continuation of alternative accountability model for Lenoir County Learning Academy

The Lenoir County Board of Education approved a recommendation on April 7 for the Lenoir County Learning Academy to continue using Option B of the State Board of Education's alternative accountability model for the 2025–26 school year.
Miss Stephanie Smith, principal of Lenoir County Learning Academy, and district staff had recommended continuation of Option B, which the State Board allows alternative schools to choose for an overall rating of progressing, maintaining or declining. The alternative model factors school persistence (20%), school achievement (20%) and student growth (60%), as explained by district staff.
Dr. Alois Stockett moved to approve the recommendation; Superintendent Williams (second) and board members voted by hand to adopt the request. The board chair said staff should notify Principal Smith of the approval.
District staff said Lenoir County Learning Academy has used the alternative progress model since the State Board approved the model in 2014 and the request is a routine continuation of that status for the coming year.
