City and Muscogee Nation continue talks on Southern Villa TIF; developers eye housing and right-of-way work

"That's 1 of the economic development projects that we're working on with the Muscogee Nation," the staff member said. "At this time, they did not want to take that on," referring to an option to expand public funding to cover right-of-way and sidewalk improvements.
Why it matters: The TIF district is tied to an economic-development plan that could include housing and infrastructure improvements. Commission members said part of the district will include housing development and noted there is an encampment in the area the city is currently addressing.
The staff member said the city and tribal attorneys have reviewed draft agreement language and that negotiations have focused on the scope of public funding and whether the Muscogee Nation would assume responsibility for certain public-right-of-way improvements.
Next steps: city and tribal negotiators will continue refining agreement language. Commissioners said they are monitoring the area and expect the development to include housing components that could address existing encampment issues.
