The Jonesboro Public Safety Committee voted at its meeting to advance an ordinance that would set new speed limits and install stop signs on several local streets and to forward a resolution to condemn a property at 2424 East Johnson Avenue to the full City Council.
The committee moved to introduce Ordinance 25010, described in the meeting as an ordinance “to the city of Jonesboro to place various traffic” changes recommended by the traffic control committee. The ordinance text presented to the committee would: establish a 25 miles-per-hour speed limit on Creth, Kate and East; establish a 30 miles-per-hour speed limit on Bridge Street from Washington to Johnson; install stop signs at Lazar and Buck Drive; repeal section 1A of ordinance 82-18-13; and change the speed limit on Thorn Street to 25 miles per hour. A committee member moved to forward the ordinance “to full council,” a second was recorded, and the presiding member noted, “That motion does pass and forwards on to full council.”
The committee also introduced Resolution 25030, which the agenda described as a resolution of the City of Jonesboro to condemn the property located at 2424 East Johnson Avenue, Jonesboro, Arkansas 72401 (parcel number 01-0114401-627800). The resolution text given in the meeting states the property’s owner as the Ruth Allison Stasnick Trust and provides a legal description as Lot 1 of Ducho Acres subdivision of Jonesboro, AR. The resolution states the property was inspected and “determined unsuited for human habitation” and that “the stipulations have been met in condemnation process to proceed.” A motion to forward the resolution to the full council was made and seconded; the presiding member said the motion passed and would move forward to full council.
The committee first approved the minutes from its prior meeting; that approval was recorded before the two introductions. No public comments or additional staff remarks were recorded during the ordinance or condemnation discussion. Both the ordinance (25010) and the resolution (25030) were forwarded to the full City Council for further consideration and final action.
The committee did not record named vote tallies or identify individual movers and seconders on the public record during the meeting transcript. The items will next appear on the City Council agenda for final votes.
