The Jonesboro City Council adopted its consent agenda and took initial and follow-up steps on two ordinances during its April 15 meeting.
The council voted to adopt the consent agenda without public discussion. The mayor then introduced Ordinance 25,011, a rezoning request for property at 59055 East Johnson Avenue to change from R-1 (residential, single-family) to C-3 (general commercial); the council suspended the rules to read the ordinance by title only and the item will return for the next reading. Council members also heard Ordinance 25,009, an ordinance to vacate and abandon a drainage easement in Lot 5R of Block C, Southern Hills; after no discussion the council advanced that item to a third reading.
The actions on the agenda were procedural rather than substantive debates: the rezoning ordinance was introduced and will receive additional readings before final action; the drainage-easement vacation likewise moved forward without comment from council members or members of the public.
The council ended the meeting without receiving public comment. Items scheduled for further readings will return at future meetings for additional consideration, public input and final votes as required by city procedure.
