Davis County approves $1.25 million amendment for Western Sports Park upgrades

The Davis County Commission on April 15 approved an amendment to contract 2022-170 with Lane Construction Company LLC to complete upgrades at Western Sports Park, in a contract amendment payable in the amount of $1,250,000 and running through Dec. 31, 2025.

Commissioners said the work covered painting exhibit buildings, repairing damaged panels, replacing roofs and other upgrades delayed in part by easement and permanent power issues involving Rocky Mountain Power. Lane Rose, facilities director, presented the item and described the scope of the additional work and the delay that prompted the amendment.

The commission discussed funding for the amendment; Rose said the money comes from the amount originally set aside for the project and not from new contingency funds. A motion to approve the amendment passed with all commissioners present voting in favor.

The approval authorizes the contractor to complete the listed upgrades and addresses delays tied to securing permanent electrical service and easement resolution. Commissioners did not request additional budget authority beyond the project's existing allocation during the discussion.

The contract amendment follows prior work on the Western Sports Park project and is scheduled to be completed before the end of 2025.

Speakers in the discussion included Lane Rose, facilities director for Davis County, and the commissioners present: Commissioner Lorraine Kamalu, Commissioner Bob Stevenson and Commissioner John Crofts. The commission recorded the item as approved during the April 15 meeting.
