Board approves slate of grants, contracts and ordinances; several items continued

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Feb. 7 unanimously approved a series of grant awards, contract modifications and ordinances, while voting to continue two items — including a public hearing on the draft reparations plan — to later dates.

The board voted unanimously to approve multiple Department of Public Health grant applications and awards, including CDC HIV prevention funding and Ryan White emergency relief funds, and adopted contract changes and planning-code amendments affecting port lands, airport project management and shared public-space permits. Two items were continued: a resolution from the African American Reparations Advisory Committee was continued to March 14, and a black history month recognition was continued to Feb. 14. Separately, the board returned an administrative-code amendment on sheriff's equipment policy to committee for additional review.

Background and context

Several of the board’s votes were routine grant acceptances and contract modifications for city departments, including Department of Public Health. A handful of planning and administrative-code changes moved forward on first reading with unanimous support. Item 24, concerning the sheriff’s equipment policy and related administrative-code notice requirements, was returned to committee after the city attorney advised the board additional notice was required. Item 25, a substantive change to the administrative code that restricts the practice of requiring undated resignation letters from appointees, drew extended debate and a recorded 8–2 vote; that matter is the subject of a separate article.
