Supervisors schedule Committee of the Whole on draft San Francisco reparations plan and Dream Keeper update

The Board of Supervisors voted Jan. 31 to schedule a Committee of the Whole meeting to review the draft San Francisco reparations plan developed by the African American Reparations Advisory Committee and to receive an update on the Dream Keeper initiative. The motion, offered by Supervisor Shamann Walton, schedules the hearing for the week identified in the agenda and passed on roll call.

Supervisor Walton said the committee will present the advisory committee's December 2022 draft recommendations and the city's Dream Keeper initiative, a $120 million program to fund black-led and black-serving organizations and projects. Walton said the meeting is timed to coincide with Black History Month and emphasized the city's obligations to address institutional inequities.
The motion passed on a recorded roll call with 10 ayes (Supervisor Ronan absent). The board asked the Human Rights Commission, the African American Reparations Advisory Committee and Dream Keeper staff to present at the scheduled Committee of the Whole.
