Fisherman's Wharf landside district renewed by board after public hearing and ballots

District leaders said the landside renewal responds to mounting cleanliness and quality‑of‑life needs in a heavily visited tourist district. Randall Scott, the district’s executive director, said the renewal will allow the district to increase funding for clean‑and‑safe ambassadors, add pressure‑washing from quarterly to monthly service, and expand marketing to help the district’s hospitality businesses recover.
Budget and services The district’s presentation showed an increase in the annual landside budget from about $758,000 to approximately $1.22 million, with roughly 95% of the increase directed toward clean‑and‑safe services, including two additional ambassadors, additional private security hours and more frequent pressure washing.
Public testimony Multiple property owners and business stakeholders, including hotel and waterfront attraction representatives, called in to support the renewal. Testimony highlighted the district’s role in graffiti removal, hospitality assistance, trash removal and outreach to unhoused individuals.
Ballot result and board action The Department of Elections reported returned weighted ballots showing 84.58% in favor when tabulated and noted there was no majority protest. The board adopted the resolution renewing the Fisherman’s Wharf Landside Community Benefit District for 15 years by unanimous roll call.
Next steps The district will implement the renewed services per the management plan and coordinate with OEWD and city departments. The district said it will focus near term on keeping sidewalks and public spaces clean and on marketing to support recovery of hotels and attractions.
