Supervisors table plan to convene committee on SFO restaurant labor dispute after vendors and workers reach agreement

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors on Jan. 7 moved to file and table a scheduled committee-of-the-whole hearing on labor disputes at San Francisco International Airport restaurants after airport staff and labor representatives reported an agreement.
Supervisor Mar introduced the item to schedule a Jan. 7 hearing at 2 p.m. to discuss issues arising from the labor dispute. Supervisor Mar and others thanked Airport Director John Martin and Kathy Widener from the airport for behind-the-scenes work that assisted vendors, workers and union representatives to reach agreements. Supervisor Mar said the issues of labor concerns “were resolved with agreements that were both supported by the vendors and the workers.”
After public comment was invited on whether the board should convene as a committee of the whole, no members of the public spoke on that procedural question. Supervisor Mar moved to file the item and the motion was seconded by Supervisor Mark Farrell. The board tabled the item without objection; supervisors were told that tabling item 5 also automatically dispensed with item 2 on the agenda.
The board recorded no further action on the dispute at this meeting and asked that staff continue to monitor the situation as needed. The board’s formal motion to schedule a committee of the whole for a public hearing therefore was not advanced because the parties reported a resolution before the hearing convened.
