Council hears annual red-light camera report showing 121,431 notices and $5.6 million net city revenue

At the meeting Councilwoman Hertek read a statutory notice that, under Florida Statute section 316.0083(4), the results of the city's red-light camera program must be presented annually to the council. Captain Benjamin Brown of the Tampa Police Department's Special Operations Division delivered the program summary.
Brown reported that from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, the program issued 121,431 notices of violation. Of those, 764 were contested; 568 contested notices were upheld and 176 were dismissed. The report listed 38,644 uniform traffic citations issued. The program collected $880,781 in paid notices (individual notice payments), and the report said $6,721,620 was remitted to the state and $2,160,000 to Verra Mobility (the vendor), leaving a stated net revenue figure for the city (excluding operating costs) of $5,611,791.
Brown said the city directed $1,402,948 of the funds to intersection-safety capital projects and $4,208,843 to the general fund, per the report.
Council members asked whether the new school-zone camera program's numbers would be included in future annual reports; Brown said the school-zone cameras are tracked separately and will not appear in this annual report.
The report was presented to satisfy the statutory reading requirement and no council action on the program was recorded in the meeting record.
