City staff and downtown organizers used the meeting to promote the upcoming Defiance Rib Fest and public-safety logistics for the event.
Organizers told the Defiance City Council that gates for Rib Fest open at 3:30 p.m. Admission will be $10; children under 10 and adults 65 and older will be admitted free. The event will feature five local bands, a headliner from northeast Indiana and 10 barbecue competitors, including two new vendors, organizers said.
Attendees were warned of morning street closures tied to event setup: Clinton Street will be closed from Second to Fourth streets, and Third Street will be closed from Perry to Wayne beginning at 5:30 a.m. on the day of the event. Organizers asked drivers to watch for pedestrians and urged festivalgoers to obey traffic signals.
Kramer's Cabs and Grama Insurance are partnering to provide rotating free cab rides from 9 p.m. to midnight within the Defiance area. Pickup points will be behind Grant’s and in front of St. Paul’s, organizers said. The service is for Defiance area trips only.
Organizers asked the public to attend the event, noting it is the downtown nonprofit’s primary annual fundraiser.
