Riverton City Council approves fireworks permit for Fremont County School District 25 at Riverton High football games

Tyra told the council the display would use consumer-grade, 1.4-class aerial canisters ("mortars") and that the planned setup would include two platforms with two tubes each. "We're only gonna be shooting... four canisters, mortars, if you will," he said. He also said he and Josh Sulzscaper would be present to make a call to cancel the display if wind or other unsafe conditions warranted it. Tyra said the Riverton Volunteer Fire Department had submitted a letter endorsing the plan.
Tyra said event staff would perform post-event cleanup. He also noted the organizers would use "common sense" this year to decide whether to proceed in marginal conditions and consider adding objective cancellation criteria if needed in future events. He told council members the display would be limited to a single aerial shot as players enter the field; Tyra said expanding to a larger show might be a possibility in future years but is not part of the current permit.
The council voted by voice to approve the permit after the public hearing. The deputy city clerk had earlier read the applicant's submission and stated staff recommended approval "as submitted."
