Local nonprofit Sober Cowboy presents $1,000 scholarship opportunity to district students

Singleton said Sober Cowboy began in January 2024 to provide recovery support in western and agricultural communities and currently serves more than 60 people in active recovery. The scholarship is intended for students entering college, trade school, workforce roles on farms and ranches, or pursuing rodeo careers. Singleton said the current scholarship amount is $1,000 and that organizers hope to raise additional funds over time.
She said the application deadline was set at March 15 and that the scholarship would likely be presented locally at Sober Cowboy’s annual rodeo fundraiser in May. Singleton provided a website (sobercowboy.org) and printed materials for more information.
The board received the presentation; no formal board action or vote on the scholarship was recorded during the meeting.
