Board accepts $829,000 bid for Wentzville administration center sewer and accessibility renovations

WENTZVILLE, Mo. — The Wentzville R‑IV School District Board voted Sept. 18 to accept a bid of $829,000 from Hankins Construction for renovations to the district administration center, citing extensive underground sewer failures and ADA accessibility issues.
Administrators told the board much of the work is replacement and rerouting of corroded sewer lines discovered on a 2018 camera inspection. The district said several restrooms had become unusable in recent months because of pipe deterioration; the project will cap and reroute eight lines beneath the building, add ADA‑compliant restrooms and replace failing infrastructure. The administration said the project had already been budgeted in the district’s capital plan.
A board member asked whether contractors have given campaign contributions or other political donations; administrators said any such activity would not run through the school district and that internal procurement and bidding procedures were followed. The board then approved the contract on a roll‑call vote. Secretary Biesenthal, Doctor Olsen, Doctor Wei, Doctor Lewis, President Scott, Vice President Walsh and Doctor Henke voted yes; the motion carried.
The district’s architect (Horner) will perform design and construction supervision under the master agreement; the architect’s standard fees will apply as part of that agreement.
