District IT recommends converting student information system to Focus; board to consider vote next meeting

Leeds said Focus’s vendor network eases state‑reporting changes because many districts using the product share information and vendor solutions for new or altered survey requirements.
Leeds and his team presented a rough timeline that included data migration, business‑process design, validation and training, with teachers and staff accessing the system ahead of a July 1 go‑live in the recommended year. He said the vendor indicated it would waive the subscription fee for the first year during the build period and that a preliminary five‑year analysis estimated about $577,000 in cost savings when comparing like modules (assessment module, form builder, etc.), though he cautioned the figure is an estimate and not guaranteed.
Leeds described several operational examples of Focus functionality: a direct immunization lookup via Florida Shots that can import vaccination records into the student record; a Focus‑to‑Focus record exchange that can accelerate interdistrict transfers; an elementary scheduling tool to balance classes; and teacher grade‑book features intended to save teachers time on scoring and attendance.
Board members responded positively to the presentation and asked for clearer communications to teachers and parents about the reasons for a conversion. The board chair asked staff to place a formal agenda item and vote on the conversion at the next board meeting; staff confirmed the item will be on the next agenda for board action.
