The Woburn Traffic Commission authorized selective enforcement by the Woburn Police Department and placed on file a request to consider a three‑way stop at Nashua Street and Draper Street after a nearby business owner reported repeated speeding and risky driving.
Petitioner Carl Picciuto, a longtime Nashua Street property owner and business operator, said vehicles and motorcycles often “rip” up and down Nashua Street at speeds he estimated at 50–60 mph; he said students and staff at a nearby welding program have had several close calls. Picciuto offered police use of his parking lot for enforcement operations.
Woburn police sergeant present told the commission he was opposed to adding a stop sign at the location and noted no crash history at the intersection. The sergeant and commissioners recommended selective enforcement and use of the police GPS speed/count equipment to gather definitive speed and volume data. The commission voted to authorize Woburn PD selective enforcement and place the matter on file for future consideration.
Ending: The petitioner said he would coordinate with police to host enforcement operations; staff will review collected speed/volume data and bring findings back to the commission if enforcement does not reduce risky driving.
