Black Barbershop Health Initiative set for April 12; commission seeks volunteers

Organizers told the Evansville City Commission on March 27 that the 2025 Black Barbershop Health Initiative is scheduled for Saturday, April 12, with setup beginning at 8:30 a.m. and the event running from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Presenters said seven barbershops have signed up, 28 volunteers are registered and roughly 30 barbers are expected.
The barbershops listed in the meeting were Fila's Designs, Gerald's Barber Shop, The Dapper Man's Parlor, Lynch's House of Kofir, Going Forward Barber and Beauty Shop, Super Fresh and Higher Image Hair Studio. Organizers said posters should be in participating barbershops by the weekend preceding the event and assignments for volunteers to specific shops will be circulated to volunteers once finalized. "We do have the 7 barbershops that, are signed up, a little bit of, uncertainty in terms of getting our supplies," a commission staff member reported.
Organizers asked the commission for logistical help, including borrowing tables and chairs from Harbor Community Organization; staff said they would contact Miss Clayton to arrange continued support. Lunches and deliveries are being arranged for volunteers, and organizers invited additional volunteers to register.
The commission noted that SEMA will have a member at each barbershop on the day of the event. Final volunteer assignments and event details were described as forthcoming by staff.
