Governance committee advances policy readings, recommends Nov. 4 be a school day and signals support for statewide cyber funding

The Twin Valley School District governance committee on April 2025 recommended several procedural items for board consideration, including policy readings, a calendar change tied to polling-site changes, and a resolution of support related to statewide cyber funding in the 2025-26 Pennsylvania budget process.

The committee recommended advancing Board Policy 113.2 (Behavior Support) for a second reading. The committee also recommended a first reading of Policy 626.1 (Federal Programs), an addition the committee said emerged from a recent audit and is required as part of compliance and documentation.

Calendar change: the governance committee recommended adding Nov. 4 as a student day for the 2025-26 school year. Committee members said the change follows Robson Elementary's removal as a polling place; because the building will not be used for elections, the district does not need to close school at that site and proposes keeping that day in session. The committee noted this alters the school-year day count and identified a projected total of 183 student days pending final calendar adoption.

Advocacy/resolution: the committee discussed a draft resolution to support statewide activity intended to secure equitable funding for cyber services in the Pennsylvania 2025-26 budget. Committee members referenced prior correspondence the district sent in support of cybercrime measures and said this would be a related advocacy item for the board to consider.
