Recorder's office highlights 'Land Aware' notifications to alert property owners of recorded filings

WABASHA COUNTY — County staff highlighted a new recorder's‑office service that notifies property owners when documents are recorded against their parcels.
A county staff member explained the program as a safety feature that alerts property owners if a document such as a quitclaim deed or a lien is recorded against their property. "This program would notify somebody immediately if something is filed against that property," the staff member said, noting that the service can help property owners react quickly to potentially fraudulent filings.
The staff member said the program was developed in response to increased public reports of individuals filing improper or confusing documents tied to property ownership. To enroll, the staff member said property owners should use the recorder’s office web page and follow the Land Aware (also described as "land access" or "land aware" in the meeting) link to sign up.
The board was told the recorder’s office rolled out the program in recent months and that the signup process is available online.
