Wabasha County commissioners approve consent items, set May 20 parking-ordinance hearing; federal boating grant removed from consent

WABASHA COUNTY — The Wabasha County Board of Commissioners approved the meeting agenda with one deletion and passed the consent agenda, then set a public hearing on a proposed county parking ordinance for 9:15 a.m. on May 20.
At the start of the meeting a commissioner asked that item P — a 2025 federal boating safety supplemental patrol grant previously listed on the consent agenda — be removed because "the funding associated with that is on pause," the commissioner said. The board voted to approve the agenda with that deletion.
The board then approved the consent agenda, which included: minutes from April 1; claims, per diems and meal vouchers; acceptance of a $5,500 donation to the sheriff's office from local fire-relief associations and a private donor; finance-approved sponsorship of snowmobile trails and county snowmobile club contracts; planning- and zoning-related contract actions; exception of the highway diesel fuel bid; IT authorization for DNS/SSL management and purchases of a replacement copier, network switch and workstations; sheriff's office disposal of one bulletproof vest; approval of the 2025 state annual county boat and water safety grant; and approval of a Guardian RFID contract. A motion to approve the consent agenda carried unanimously.
The board then voted to set a public hearing on a proposed Wabasha County parking ordinance for May 20 at 9:15 a.m. A commissioner moved to set the hearing and the motion passed.
Other procedural actions included a brief recess motion related to a community chili cook-off; the motion to recess carried.
The board did not vote on the federal boating safety supplemental patrol grant after it was removed from the consent agenda. The removal was described as driven by the grant funding being paused at the federal level.
