The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada approved the March 25, 2025 meeting minutes and issued orders on a set of general counsel and staff items by unanimous voice votes. During the meeting’s public comment period, two Las Vegas-area speakers described a residential billing dispute with Southwest Gas and a planned shareholder letter to the SCC.
Minutes and administrative items: Chair Haley Williamson moved to approve the meeting minutes for March 25, 2025; the motion received a second and passed on a voice vote of aye from the commissioners present. The commission also accepted the Office of General Counsel’s recommendations and issued appropriate orders for agenda items 3A, 3B, 3C, and 3D, and accepted regulatory operations staff recommendations and issued orders for agenda items 4A, 5A, 5B, 6A, and 6B. Commissioners voted "aye" on those motions and the motions carried.
Public comment — billing dispute: Anna Dictakis (audio record name spelled in transcript as Anna Dictakis) described an ongoing dispute with Southwest Gas in which she said she was billed $167 but was being told there was a returned payment of $22,000 repeatedly resubmitted; she also said the outstanding amount had been cited as $8,800. Dictakis told the commission she has requested records and documents from the company and asked for help getting the documentation needed to resolve the matter. She provided her name for the record during the Las Vegas public comment period.
Public comment — shareholder letter and risk alert: Tony Simmons said he would submit a draft letter to the "SCC" later in the week and urged issuance of a risk alert to boards of directors about the need for shareholder intervention in regulatory processes. Simmons said he recently became a shareholder of Berkshire Hathaway and intends to participate in oversight by questioning company employees; he offered to file the draft letter into the commission record through staff (Miss Scott, per the record).
Why it matters: The administrative approvals finalize routine orders and minutes from the commission meeting. The public comments bring two customer and shareholder concerns onto the record: a residential billing dispute with a utility service provider and a request for regulatory oversight or advisory action to encourage board-level attention to utility governance.
