Streetscape work continues on South End; Baldwin Drive changes cut downtown parking by eight spaces

Town staff reported progress on the downtown streetscape project and described short-term parking reductions tied to construction and private-business expansions.

Public works staff said demolition has continued on the South End and that concrete work for new curbs was expected to begin the week following the meeting. Baldwin Drive's parking lot remained closed as the project advances.

The mayor and staff said the combination of the Sykesville Station kitchen extension and streetscape adjustments resulted in a net reduction of eight parking spaces downtown. Council members also discussed six spaces near the French Twist restaurant that have been used for outdoor seating and could be affected by future expansion. Town staff said plans exist to expand the parking lot to the west in the future but that no schedule or firm timing was available.

The town indicated a final striping operation on Springfield Avenue was scheduled later in the week to complete that project.
