Resident tells commission deed theft and foreclosure issues persist; member cites study mandated by House bill

During the public‑comment period, Janice Walt Grenadier, identifying herself as a certified ADA advocate and member of a homeowners grassroots coalition, told the Virginia Housing Commission that she and others have experienced wrongful foreclosures and forged or ‘‘robo‑signed’’ documents. Grenadier said she is still litigating a foreclosure she described as illegitimate and urged the commission to investigate deed theft and compensation for harmed homeowners.
“My loan trust was on the documents that were done by Lynn Symoneac … I am a victim of it. I’m still fighting it in the courts,” Grenadier said.
Delegate Adele McClure responded that legislation requiring a study on related issues passed the General Assembly and that Virginia Housing is to study the issue and report back by Nov. 1. McClure identified the measure as House Bill 2396 and named Delegate Marcus Simon as the bill’s patron. McClure said the commission staff would provide the commenter with the legislation and study information.
The commission did not take formal action during the meeting; staff said they would provide the commenter with the referenced legislation and that the matter is the subject of a legislative study.
