Manassas proclaims April Child Abuse Prevention Month, Arbor Month and National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week

The Manassas City Council on April 14 read and presented proclamations marking three observances: Child Abuse Prevention Month, Arbor Month (including Arbor Day on April 25), and National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week.
Mayor Michelle Davis Younger read the proclamation declaring April 2025 as Child Abuse Prevention Month and presented pinwheels — the prevention symbol — alongside City Department of Social Services staff who attended. Social Services staff described statewide statistics and emphasized collaboration among social services, the police department and the school system in preventing child abuse and supporting families.
The council also proclaimed April as Arbor Month and designated April 25 as City Arbor Day; staff and volunteers from the beautification committee and the city's tree program were present and invited residents to the Arbor Day event at Jenny Dean Park at 10 a.m. The proclamation noted Manassas’ designation as a Tree City USA for more than three decades.
Finally, the council proclaimed the week in April 2025 as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and thanked dispatchers and public safety communication specialists for their role as the first point of contact in emergencies. Police leadership joined the presentation to recognize telecommunicators.
All three proclamations were ceremonial recognitions; no council votes were required.
