Committee approves AT&T easement relocation at North High campus

The Waukesha School District Finance and Facilities Committee on April 7 approved an easement relocation allowing AT&T to shift an existing utility line across the North High School campus to accommodate a newly placed drainage ditch. The motion passed by voice vote, 4-0.
Committee members were told the easement does not create new utility uses but moves the location of an existing line to reflect the drainage improvements. A redlined version of the easement that reflected language changes made by the district's legal counsel was presented along with a map of the new placement.
District staff said the attorney's revisions clarified restrictions in the original AT&T language and the revised easement runs parallel to another existing easement. Committee members were told the relocation will not remove usable turf or interfere with the softball field directly north of the easement; staff said the area is not one where the district would build a new structure.
Kurt Weebel was identified as staff who has assisted with the project and was present to answer questions. Committee members asked whether the easement would significantly reduce field or redevelopment options; staff replied the revised language reduces earlier concerns about future restrictions.
The committee voted to approve the easement as presented.
The finalized easement documents and the redline will be retained in district records. Staff indicated related agreements not yet complete on other agenda items will be brought back in May.
