RDA approves $25,000 visual improvement grant for Dustland Bar on South Commerce Street

The Redevelopment Agency of the City of Las Vegas approved a $25,000 Commercial Visual Improvement Program (CVIP) grant Wednesday for a proposed venue at 1433 South Commerce Street in the Arts District.
Dina Babsky, director of economic and urban development, presented the CVIP agreement between the RDA, Sticky 8 LLC (owner) and Dustland Bar LLC (tenant). Babsky said the property owners are investing nearly $800,000 in interior renovation and about $130,000 for exterior improvements, making the project eligible for the full $25,000 CVIP grant to support new paint, windows, iron fencing and landscaping.
Jennifer Toller, co-owner and a long-time Arts District business owner, described the project as a bar, restaurant and live music venue called the Dustland Bar and said the owners are deeply invested in the build-out. "We have a really awesome local community that have chipped in to help and are very excited to do this," she said, adding she previously operated a store in the Arts District and owns Market in the Alley.
Councilwoman Diaz praised the owners' prior successes and moved to approve the item; the agency approved the CVIP agreement by voice vote. Babsky said the project sits one block south of a new residential development by Cedar Street and that staff hopes the Dustland Bar will open later this year.
The CVIP grant is funded from an RDA special revenue fund and is limited to redevelopment area 1. The motion carried by voice vote; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally.
