Faith-based Timber Bay presents new Hayward mentoring program and open house plans

Dixon said Timber Bay originated in Minnesota and aims to mentor at‑risk youth through relationship‑based outdoor trips and local mentoring sessions. The Hayward site plans weekly drop-in times and after-school meetings and hopes to run monthly wilderness trips; Dixon said the program is focused on middle-school and high-school youth who may be at higher risk of delinquency.
The Harbor building (a purchased property adjacent to the House of Hope/Spider Lake Church) is being outfitted for programming. Dixon asked for referrals from schools and community partners, listed donation needs (transportation/van, outdoor gear, a shed and facility improvements) and invited CJCC members to an open house on April 22. He said the program is funded by private donations and is not currently requesting county funding.
Council members responded positively and suggested local partner organizations and past programs (e.g., Boys & Girls Club groups) as referral or collaboration sources.
No formal CJCC action was taken on the presentation; Timber Bay will accept referrals and continue outreach to schools and community partners.
