Scott (staff member) told the committee that work on the citys private-property infiltration and inflow (I&I) project with the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District began April 2 and that phase 2 crews have completed work at six homes and have about 25 homes remaining.
"This is our private property I and I project with Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District," Scott said. He said restoration crews are returning to inspect phase 1 yards for settlement and to add topsoil or grass seed where needed.
Scott said the project has reached roughly 80 to 90% participation in portions where the city completed full-cost lateral replacement, while some properties were not suitable for work where laterals ran under foundations or owners declined. He said crews found three homes with sump pumps directly tied into the sanitary sewer; two of those owners have disconnected pumps.
Scott also described a Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewer District "pipe check" program that may offer a $2,500 to $3,000 discount for property owners who use approved contractors to disconnect illegal sump-pump connections and properly route them away from the sanitary sewer.
Staff said they expect to complete the remaining work within a few months and will continue yard restoration and coordination with homeowners and MSD.
