Fairfield County Council on April 14 authorized the purchase of a replacement vehicle for the animal-control department after the previous vehicle was totaled.
County Administrator Michael Carpenter said the insurance reimbursement was $24,364 and that replacement would cost $25,790, a difference the administrator said was available within the departments budget. Council approved the expenditure to enable the department to purchase the replacement vehicle.
Separately, the sheriffs office requested six midterm replacement vehicles. Carpenter said the item required more detailed discussion and should be considered by the Finance Committee; a council motion sent the sheriffs vehicle request to the Administration and Finance Committee for review. Council members discussed urgency and the possibility of finding interim funding in the current budget if needed; the motion to move the item to committee passed 7-0.
Council instructions were procedural: staff will present more detailed cost and budget amendment options at the committee meeting or during upcoming budget sessions.
