County staff and planning staff said the property historically operated as a commercial site (automotive repair) and that a B-2 zoning parcel exists about 200 feet from the site. The Fairfield County Planning Commission recommended approval of the rezoning. During final reading the council discussed the surrounding land use and the fact the property had been grandfathered as commercial in the past; the owner(s) listed on the agenda were Huen and Shannon Lyles.
Following discussion, council voted 7-0 to adopt the ordinance on final reading. No members of the public signed up to speak during the public hearing for the rezoning.
