Council hears update on planned UDOT night road work and possible fiber optic conduit in Rockville

Councilmembers received an update from the mayor on a planned Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) microabrasion and sealing project on Main Street that UDOT has asked to perform at night between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. The town was told the resurfacing work is expected to take one night and possibly part of a second night and could be noisy.
UDOT indicated the surface treatment dries quickly; town staff reported that UDOT told them the new surface is dry within about an hour, which staff relayed as likely minimizing driveway access interruptions. The council requested advance notice of the date and at least a month's notice so residents and businesses, including bed-and-breakfast operators, can be warned.
Council staff also reported UDOT may pull fiber optic cable using existing 2-inch conduit placed by South Central during prior work, which could allow residents and town facilities to connect to a fiber network without extensive new digging. Springdale residents working with South Central already have options to connect; Rockville staff said the town office and meeting hall could be connected sooner using existing infrastructure if the conduit is available.
No formal action was taken; the mayor said staff will seek a date from UDOT, request advance notice for residents, and report back when details are confirmed.
