The Fountain Green planning commission and city staff advised property owners that new driveways onto U.S. Highway 132 require UDOT review and study.
Planning staff told the council that UDOT will perform a site-specific study to determine whether a new driveway is feasible and, if so, what mitigation or road improvements would be required. The city plans to add a notice on relevant permit applications directing applicants to contact the identified UDOT representative; staff said they will provide the commissions designated contact information and assist applicants with the procedural steps for UDOT review.
Council and planning members discussed a recent case in which a proposed house flip of a garage/driveway footprint required UDOT clearance because of proximity to a neighboring driveway; staff said that experience motivated the recommendation to flag the UDOT requirement directly on planning forms to avoid application delays.
Commission staff said they will handle driveway requests on a case-by-case basis and provide applicants with the correct UDOT contact at the outset of an application.
