Officials said the city will ask North Sanpete Disposal for the largest available dumpster — discussed as a 30-yard container — and to explore swap-out options during peak Friday and Saturday usage. Private haulers were also suggested for overnight swap service; a local hauler, Wiley Cook, was named as an option for midnight exchanges.
Event logistics matter because the crowd concentrates Friday evening and Saturday daytime. Organizer comments noted past problems with overflowing containers and called for either larger single dumpsters or multiple, regularly swapped smaller containers. Council members said they will seek options that balance space constraints in the park with the ability to keep collection points clear during heavy usage.
Animal control and park safety also drew sustained discussion. Staff and the council agreed on clearer signage: “no animals on park” signs will be posted and positioned so visitors entering from each side will see them. Officials discussed limits on enforcement because federal and state rules for service animals restrict the questions officers may ask; they noted staff can only ask two questions about a claimed service animal’s status and task-trained behavior. The council instructed staff to coordinate with the sheriff’s office to increase officer presence at the park during the event and to run PA and social media reminders.
Organizers proposed equipment and power plans for concessions: a potential cooler/ice trailer and a small freezer trailer were discussed, with a plan to use an existing mechanical/service room outlet and lock that door for security. Council and staff said they will confirm electrical capacity and permitting and, if needed, use a small generator for Friday night operations.
On event pricing, organizers reported incremental fee increases. Craft booths will rise from $75 to $100; softball entry fees were proposed at $15 for single teams and $30 for a couple divisions. Food pricing will be reviewed to reduce losses: for example, lamb-sandwich pricing was discussed in the $6–$8 range, with staff asking for vendor input. The council emphasized the event’s mission of community celebration but said revenues must at least cover costs so the event remains sustainable.
The council directed staff to finalize dumpster contracts, produce a written trash-management plan, install new park signage stating the animal rule with an explicit reference to service-animal exceptions, and confirm power availability for the concession trailers. Organizers will coordinate with the sheriff’s office for extra deputy coverage and with volunteers to help manage trash and recycling during the two-day festival.
City staff said they will return with finalized vendor fees, dumpster swap logistics, sign locations and a detailed power plan in advance of the next council meeting.
