The Methodist Church restoration committee presented its first quarterly report to the council, saying the project currently has $28,992.47 in the restoration account. The committee said the balance rose after a previously uncashed check was redeposited.
Committee members described a new sponsorship program aimed at businesses and residents to raise funds or donate labor and supplies for specific restoration tasks. Options include choosing a project, donating materials, providing cash for a named part of the work (for example, a window) or offering professional labor.
The committee outlined completed and pending phases: Phase 1 work completed in 2023; Phase 2 work is underway; Phase 3 is on the schedule but conditional on grant decisions. The committee said it is still awaiting notification on a grant application and asked the council whether grant funds could be applied to subsequent projects if awarded.
Planned contracting and bids for the quarter include re-facing the entrance, replacing roof caps, gutter control, fascia and soffit work and finishing roofing. The committee said it is awaiting confirmation on the grant before initiating work that could affect grant eligibility.
On fundraising events, the committee said it was canceling the old-time baseball tournament (date and participation conflicts cited) and is planning other fundraisers, including a 5K and a ghost-train tour in October using a local train company's availability. A councilor cautioned organizers to avoid routing events through the cemetery out of respect for community concerns; the committee said it will avoid cemetery routing.
The committee asked council members for feedback and said volunteers will begin outreach and sponsorship solicitations by mail and door-to-door visits.
