River Trail celebration set for April 25; organizers plan ribbon-cutting, guided hikes and star party

Project partners and liability
Town staff said the trail was completed through cooperative work by private property owners, Bluff City Historic Preservation Association, BLM, Grand Canyon Trust, Bears Ears Partnership, Jones & DeMille (engineers) and contractors. The council emphasized the trail uses easements on private property and some federal land; it is not currently a town-maintained asset and the town has not paid for trail construction.
Event details
The celebration will start with a ribbon event at Sandown and a community gathering at 1:30 p.m. on April 25. Guided hikes led by local archaeologists will highlight petroglyphs; the Bears Ears Partnership and other partners will provide refreshments. Organizers also plan a star party the evening of April 25; councilors noted the town’s Dark Sky application may be under review by then.
