Garland Senior Center approves minutes, outlines April events and trips including Chicago tour

The coordinator said the center still had space for extended trips and noted a seven-day Chicago trip scheduled for June 8–14. Other trips and events mentioned in the packet included Grub Club dining outings, a visit to the Dallas Arboretum, a Fort Worth Zoo trip, an Easter brunch at Bradfield Recreation Center and a thrift-shopping outing. The coordinator said attendees do not need to be regular center members to join trips; phone registration is accepted and a one-page application and ID badge will be provided to anyone who wants to become a regular participant.
The meeting also announced a mayoral candidate forum set for Saturday, April 5, at the North Garland Branch Library at 11 a.m.; all candidates were expected to attend. The center encouraged members to let staff know if they want to contribute to the next "Seniors in the Know" article, which has a May 19 deadline.
Staff reiterated that the center monitors members' welfare and that staff will speak privately with members they believe are with an unusually attentive companion or who appear to be acting differently. "We don't embarrass anyone ... but we will get them aside and ask questions," a staff member said about protecting members from potential financial or social exploitation.
