Taiwan director general visits Tennessee Senate to tout trade, education ties and Quanta expansion

Elliot Wang, director general of Taiwan’s office in Atlanta, addressed the Tennessee Senate and urged deeper economic, educational and cultural ties between Taiwan and Tennessee.

Wang praised Tennessee’s business climate and highlighted Taiwan-based Quanta Computer’s investments: he told senators Quanta has expanded its Nashville AI server manufacturing facility for four consecutive years since 2021, creating thousands of jobs and investing more than $300 million. He suggested Tennessee consider a trade office in Taiwan and encouraged memoranda of understanding on educational exchanges, including Mandarin-English language programs and engineering talent development.

Wang also noted recent cultural ties: he said Tennessee recently added Taiwan’s official Mandarin Proficiency Test to the state Seal of Biliteracy. He argued that Taiwan brings technology, health-care and security expertise to U.S. partners even when international forums limit Taiwan’s formal participation.

Senators received the director general in the well and thanked him for the visit. The remarks included lighthearted references to food (Taiwanese popcorn chicken and Tennessee hot chicken) and emphasized the mutual benefits of deeper economic and academic exchange.
