Council renews three-year facility use agreement with ASO for city soccer park

The Eau Claire City Council unanimously approved a three‑year facility-use agreement renewing the long-standing relationship between the city and the American Youth Soccer Organization (ASO), Region 803, and the Chippewa Valley Soccer League.
Parks staff said ASO runs recreational youth leagues for players ages 3 and up with about 1,100 participants each season and hosts week‑long summer training camps. The new agreement adds the ASO United program, a more competitive summer training offering, and gives ASO responsibility for operating the soccer park concession stand year‑round. Parks staff will continue to lay out and paint the fields at the start of each season; ASO and volunteer groups will help maintain field lines during seasons.
The agreement also updates the fee structure: a flat base fee covers a set number of reservations and a reduced rate applies for additional reservations to encourage participation. Parks staff said the city will present a related agreement with Eau Claire United at a future meeting to clarify tournament proceeds and coordination. Councilmember Mboga offered public thanks to ASO leadership for long-term community service. The motion to approve was moved by Councilmember Johnson and seconded by Councilmember Miller; the council voted aye and the item passed unanimously.
Parks and Recreation staff said opening day for ASO is April 19 and that the groups will continue to coordinate volunteer maintenance and tournament scheduling under the renewed agreement.
