Skagit County appoints two members to Planning Commission to fill vacant seats

Skagit County commissioners voted unanimously to fill two vacancies on the county Planning Commission.
On March 24 the commissioners appointed Jed Holmes to fill Seat 8 in District 3; the appointment was effective April 1 and will expire on Aug. 31, 2025, completing an unexpired term. The board later completed the process to fill Seat 1 (District 1) and appointed Patricia “Patsy” Good to a four‑year term; commissioners noted the commission will be fully staffed and begin deliberations on comprehensive plan updates.
Robbie Eckroth, senior planner for Planning and Development Services, told the board the county received multiple applications for each vacancy and conducted interviews before forwarding nominees to the commissioners. Commissioners said they were impressed by the applicant pools and emphasized the planning commission’s heavy workload: members were scheduled to begin deliberations on the comprehensive plan update the day after the appointment hearing.
Both appointments were put forward by the chair and approved by voice vote with no recorded dissents. Commissioners clarified that Holmes’ appointment was to fill an incomplete term and that Good’s appointment will follow the normal four‑year term schedule when reappointment options occur.
The Planning Commission will next convene to consider updates to the county comprehensive plan.
