County planning staff update ZLR committee on multi‑year zoning map review

Van Bellegham said staff are working closely with town officials to reconcile mapping discrepancies and update town zoning to align with the current county ordinance, and that the process moves in phases because it requires time from both county planners and town staff. She listed towns currently in active review—Deerfield, Vienna, Cottage Grove and Vermont—and noted Albion is complete and awaiting a planner to take it to the town. Dunkirk is complete and through the full process. Staff have reached out to additional towns (Talcott/York/Town Primrose/Town of Perry listed in the packet) to schedule their reviews.
Committee members asked about the pace of work and staff said the project accelerated at first but then required reassessing workloads to continue progress; regular staff check‑ins are being used to share best practices and maintain momentum. Van Bellegham said the work can feel episodic—periods of fast processing followed by pauses while towns fit reviews into their schedules—and thanked planning staff for ongoing efforts.
