Austin Peay trustees approve tenure for 18 faculty, effective August 2025

The Austin Peay State University Academic Affairs Committee approved tenure for 18 faculty members Wednesday; the appointments take effect in August 2025, Provost Maria Cronley said.
The tenure recommendations were presented by Maria Cronley, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, who said the appointments were recommended by departments, college committees and the provost’s office "in accordance with APSU policy 10 25." Cronley said the cohort includes 18 faculty representing 14 departments across all five colleges.
The committee moved and seconded approval of the recommended tenure appointments and adopted the motion by voice vote. Chair members signified approval by saying "Aye" and the motion carried.
Cronley said the institution currently has about 70% of tenure-eligible faculty holding tenure, noting that the rate fluctuates over time as faculty retire and new junior faculty are hired. "That will go up and down over the course of time as faculty retire and then new junior faculty come in," she said. Cronley added that the university has been working to balance the mix of tenurable and non-tenurable faculty, including permanent instructors and clinical faculty.
The committee also approved the meeting minutes circulated from the Dec. 6, 2024, Academic Affairs Committee meeting before taking up the tenure recommendations.
No individual vote tally by name was recorded in the public discussion; committee members approved both motions by voice votes and the chair declared the motions carried.
