Buena Vista trustees approve application for DOLA administrative grant to fund parks, recreation and trails master plan

The Town of Buena Vista on March 11 authorized the mayor to sign a letter of support and submit an administrative grant application to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) to secure $25,000 in administrative grant funding for a parks, recreation and trails master plan.
Shane, the town's parks and recreation staff, told trustees the requested DOLA administrative grant would fill a remaining funding gap and allow staff to put the town's parks, recreation and trails master plan out to bid. Shane said the town has already been awarded approximately $25,000 through a HAVA grant and the DOLA funds would reach the level staff needs to proceed.
A trustee moved to authorize the mayor to sign the DOLA grant letter of support; another trustee seconded the motion and trustees voted unanimously in favor. The mayor will sign the application letter and staff will proceed to submit the grant request to the Department of Local Affairs. If awarded, the funds will be added to the town capital fund and used to solicit proposals for the master plan work.

Staff said the additional funding will allow the town to prepare a bid package and begin a master planning process once the comprehensive plan work is complete.
