Board formalizes process allowing missed public‑comment speakers to be called again

At its March 26, 2025 meeting, the Pittsburgh Public Schools Board approved an amendment to Policy 1,001.1 (public participation in board meetings) to add language allowing both in‑person and virtual speakers who miss their name being called to have their names called again later in the meeting.

Director Suk introduced the change during the education committee report, saying the amendment would put into writing a standard practice already used by the board: “I would like to … recommend a slight amendment, to just add a clause, within the policy that says that allows for both in person and virtual speakers to have their names called again if they miss their name being called the first time,” Suk said.

Director Petrosky moved the amendment; Ms. Taliferro seconded. The board voted in favor by roll call with the item passing unanimously. Board president Walker instructed that the board action will include the amendment as described.

Why it matters: The change codifies an operational practice for public participation and clarifies how late or virtual attendees can participate in public comment. The amendment was described as a minor change to make practice explicit rather than alter speaking time or order.
