Board hears facilities report: Nissan classroom move, outdoor classroom grant, FAIR conversion and bus relocation

The Tullahoma school board heard a Building and Grounds Committee update on facility projects that will change classroom locations, add an outdoor classroom using grant funds, and relocate transportation operations.

Committee highlights

- Nissan Center of Excellence classroom: Because the Nissan program has expanded, the committee reviewed plans to move the Nissan classroom into the existing aviation space that has three bay doors. The move is intended to provide more space for machines and equipment to serve additional students.

- West Middle outdoor classroom: West Middle School requested an open-air pavilion on a concrete pad to serve as an outdoor classroom; the committee said the ISM grant will fund the project.

- FAIR / early childhood conversion: The committee heard an update from Mr. Jordan on plans to convert the existing FAIR building into an early childhood learning center; further discussion was expected at a study session.

- South Jackson Performing Arts Center parking and bus relocation: Expansion of the parking lot between the performing arts center and central office will eliminate bus access to the north side of central office. To accommodate the change, the district plans to relocate the transportation office and bus staging to the maintenance facility.

- Playground safety and other outdoor spaces: The committee continues to evaluate safety improvements and possible changes to outdoor play areas across the district.
