The resolution directs the district to participate only in the bonus described in section 4 of the packet provided to the board and not to any other element of the voucher legislation, according to the district presenter. Board members were told the district expects a list of eligible employees within about a week and that the bonus is a one-time payment, not a recurring raise; retirement or other mandatory employer contributions will be paid by the program alongside the bonus. The board did not receive a roster of eligible employees at the meeting.
School board members also approved the adoption of new textbooks recommended by the district's textbook adoption committee and granted permission for multiple overnight trips: Collinwood High School volleyball to Carson-Newman University (July 15—17), Frank Hughes School basketball camp at the University of North Alabama in Florence (dates as listed to the board), and Waynesboro Middle School cheer camp at Middle Tennessee State University (June 13—15). A previously submitted Collinwood trip to UNA was removed from the packet at the schools' request.
On policy, the board approved on first reading a revision to policy 2.702 (Inventories) that replaces itemized, prescriptive language with a statement that the district will follow the federal Uniform Guidance for grants. Presenters said the change was recommended during federal monitoring to avoid repeated policy edits when federal grant guidance changes; the item will return for a required second reading.
